Chatter

noun operational

A chatter is the human professional who operates an OnlyFans creator’s direct messages on her behalf. Not a bot, not a virtual assistant — a trained human worker who sustains conversations consistent with the creator’s voice, interests, and personal brand.

Why the role exists

DMs don’t scale. An individual creator with more than 200 active subscribers can’t sustain more than 20-30 hours per week of DMs without falling into burnout or quality decline. Chatters absorb that load without the fan noticing the change, maintaining the illusion of direct connection with the creator.

Fans don’t know (and commercially shouldn’t know) the chatter is responding — the illusion of direct connection is part of the product. The creator still personally intervenes in the most important DMs (high-spending VIP fans, key conversion moments, situations requiring her voice directly).

Pricing models

Commission on PPVs (5-15%) — the most common model. Aligns incentives. Fixed hourly ($7-$30/hr) — predictable cost, no incentive alignment. Fixed monthly salary ($1,000-$3,000/mo) — only viable in large operations.

Agency-integrated vs separately hired chatter

Agency-integrated chatters come bundled with the agency’s commission (typically 35-45%). No additional fee. The agency briefs, controls quality, coordinates with general strategy. This is the right move for most intermediate creators.

Separately hired chatters are managed directly by the creator using one of the pricing models above. Makes sense for top-tier creators whose very specific brand voice justifies dedicated chatter.
